Physicians now have another online community option for connecting with one another.
Ozmosis, a physician-only Web site allows doctors to bookmark and post content from any sources—including journals, medical cases, videos, podcasts, blogs and clinical studies—and share information with other users. Ozmosis said it creates a real-time, searchable database from what is provided by doctors’ individual posts.
Doctors’ identities are verified before they are allowed to sign up. The goal is to foster a reliable and trustworthy knowledge exchange in which physicians are secure that information is accurate, according to the site’s co-founder, Jason Bhan, a family physician and clinical professor. “Physicians are far more likely to apply the knowledge they acquire because they know and trust the source of the information,” Bhan said in a written statement.
The site, which has no advertising, is free for participants, but doctors could also choose to “opt-in” to sponsored areas of the online community, where they will receive information about medical products and services.
